Why Design and Marketing Specialists Find Candy Mockup PSDs Important?

A candy mockup PSD is a Photoshop file that can be used by designers for digital candy packaging design without the need for a lengthy sample creation process. Their job is made a lot easier when they access the Smart object layers which consist of pre-made packaging design assets. This allows designers to quickly set packaging as they prepare for a client presentation and even place design elements that packaging should contain. They can actually show the client a design of what a packaging would look like on a candy bar instead of displaying a design as a flat artwork.

The advantages of candy mockup PSDs are so enormous on the design front that it is exactly the same on the marketing front. Brands have the advantage of creating images of design elements to use on social media or to sell products. Since they do not have to print post design to make packaging, design marketing elements campaigns to advertise a particular product. They do not have print to see how their design elements would look like on a product fulfilling their marketing goal. Marketing teams appreciate candy mockup PSDs for brand consistency ensuring that the colors, type, and logos are exactly the same on the product design.

How to Package Candy?

Freshness is key. Candy that loses its freshness loses its appeal. Candy that is made of hard sugar like lollipops can use individual wrapping to keep it fresh. Treat types of candy that contain the element of moisture like gummies and chewy candy use pouches or bags that are moisture resistant and can be sealed after packaging to keep the candy fresh. For candy used as a gift, packaging is chosen for their appeal and can be a window pouch, a tin, or a kraft box.

The key steps of the wrapping process remain the same across the different types of candy. First, wrap each candy in an appropriate food-safe material. Then, add a moisture barrier if necessary. Next, seal the wrap completely, and finally, place the wrap in its secondary packaging. When wrapping candy, the surfaces that contact the candy must be food grade certified.

How Long Is Packaged Candy Good For?

The shelf life of candy varies significantly with candy type and storage conditions. Hard candy typically has the longest shelf life, lasting up to a year, due to its low moisture content. Dark chocolate has a similar one year shelf life. On the other hand, milk and white chocolate only last 6 to 8 months. Chewy candies like gummies and taffy last 6 to 9 months, and toffee and caramel candies have a shelf life of 6 to 8 months.

The shelf life of candy can also be affected by heat and humidity. Even if candy is properly sealed, it can still degrade quickly in warm and damp environments. Candy should be stored in a cool and dry area, away from direct sunlight, and should always be consumed before its “best by” date.

How to Make Candy Packaging?

The first step in the design of candy packaging is a structural dieline — a flat design of the packaging with folds, cuts, and seals. Placement of design elements is done in graphic design software, with tools like Adobe Illustrator. This allows for regulatory compliance of the design elements, like placement of branding, flavor name, and list of ingredients.

After a design is approved, a printing method is selected. Digital printing works for shorter runs with more detail, while offset printing becomes a cheaper choice with larger print runs. Then there is the question of materials. Options include laminated film, kraft paper, cardboard, or foil. Ultimately, the choice of materials boils down to the kind of candy and the identity of the brand. The packaging manufacturer prints, cuts, and assembles the finished product and is ready to pack.

Is Candy Wrapper Recyclable?

It depends on the kind of material and film used. Most plain paper wrappers can be recycled, but layers of papers, foils and film used on the wrappers cannot be recycled due to how they are made. Brands are beginning to change the films to a mono-material or a certified compostable packaging. Consumers can now recycle a mixed-film wrapper collected at soft plastic stations. Check for the How2Recycle label on packaging for proper disposal.
